Santa Rosa, CA — After nearly 4 hours of interviews and deliberation, the Santa Rosa City Council selected Dianna MacDonald out of six applicants to represent District 3, filling the seat vacated by former Council Member Jack Tibbetts. Following the vote, she was immediately sworn into office and will participate with voting authority in the next City Council meeting on Feb 15.
"I am diligent and ready to serve this Council and this community,” said Council Member MacDonald during her interview. “Our mission is to provide high quality public services, and to cultivate a vibrant, resilient, and livable city. My goal is to help implement the mission for Santa Rosa to be a vibrant, safe and affordable place to live, and a leader in the North Bay.”
MacDonald is a fourth generation Sonoma County resident, having lived 40 total years in Santa Rosa and over 50 years in Sonoma County, and she is part owner of North Bay Commercial Services. A strong advocate for early childhood education, Council Member MacDonald served as president of the California State PTA (CSPTA) from 2017 to 2019 and is currently serving as the legislative advocate for CSPTA, where she has sat on committees for finance, arts, and diversity, equity, and inclusion, among others.
MacDonald is a county representative for the Sonoma County Commission on the Status of Women, served the California School Boards Association Delegate Assembly and Creative Sonoma Advocacy team, and is a board of director for the Rincon Valley Education Foundation and the co-chair of the California State Literacy Task Force.
As appointee, McDonald will serve temporarily as District 3 Council member until a permanent replacement is elected in the November 2022 General Election. The candidate elected at that time will serve the remainder of former Council member Tibbett’s term, ending in December 2024. The filing period for candidates to run for that election will open on July 18.
