Water Supply Update

300x189_DROUGHT IS HERE ENGLISH_2x

In June, Santa Rosa City Council declared a water shortage emergency, enacting Stage 3 (of 8) of the City’s Water Shortage Contingency Plan. This action included the adoption of mandatory restrictions on water use and a 20 percent mandatory community-wide reduction in water use, compared to 2020.

Reservoir levels in our watershed are at an all-time low. As of August 27, 2021, Sonoma Water has provided the following water storage statistics:

  1. Lake Sonoma storage is at 48% of the target water supply
  2. Lake Mendocino storage is 27% of the target water supply

In July and August, Santa Rosa Water customers successfully reduced their water use by 22% in comparison to those same months in 2020, exceeding the 20% reduction target. This is great news and Santa Rosa Water appreciates the community-wide effort to save water during this historic drought. Everyone in the community and the region are encouraged to continue to eliminate water waste and practice water conserving behaviors, especially as we head into the fall.

Santa Rosa Water is here to help residents save water with free water saving devices (e.g. showerheads and sink aerators), rebates, tips, and WaterSmart check-ups. To get started call 707-543-3985 (Spanish available), email WaterSmart@srcity.org, or visit srcity.org/SaveWater.
