Santa Rosa Water

It's Dry Out There. Be WaterSmart.

It's a Dry Year. Save Water With Us.

Santa Rosa primarily relies on the Russian River for our precious drinking water. Together we have made great progress in using water wisely by embracing daily WaterSmart habits. These efforts have helped to ensure a reliable water supply for all. However, our water future remains uncertain due to the variability in rainfall patterns and the impacts of climate change.

This winter we are experiencing a poor start to the rainy season, which follows on the third driest water year (Oct. 2019- Sept. 2020) on record in our region over the last 127 years. The lack of rainfall makes it more critical than ever to maintain WaterSmart habits as part of our daily routine. Winter is a great time check for leaks in your home and irrigation system, swap out that old dishwasher or clothes washer, or maybe even tackle that long-delayed project to implement water-saving measures in your home or backyard.

Santa Rosa Water is here to help

Let’s all do our part to preserve our precious water resources by working together to find WaterSmart solutions for our region this winter. Our WaterSmart experts recommend:

Turn OFF Your Irrigation System.

Give your irrigation system a rest over the winter and save precious water.  Your plants don’t need irrigation during cold weather and shorter days.

Request a WaterSmart Check-up Kit.

Your free WaterSmart Kit includes everything you need to measure the efficiency of your faucets and showerheads, test your toilets for leaks, and arrange to receive free water saving devices delivered safely to your door. Request a do-it-yourself Kit by emailing  or calling 707-543-3985.

Find & Fix Leaks.

Leaking toilets can waste about 200 gallons of water every day. That’s like flushing your toilet more than 50 times for no reason! Request free dye tabs to test your toilet for leaks and learn more about finding and fixing leaks HERE

Install Free WaterSmart Devices.

Showerheads, kitchen and bathroom sink aerators, and hose-end shut off nozzles are available upon request.  Making simple changes, like replacing aerators, can save about 460 gallons of water per month.  Request free aerators, showerheads, and hose-end nozzles by emailing  or calling 707-543-3985.

Choose WaterSense Fixtures and Appliances.

When replacing faucets, showerheads, toilets, clothes washers, and dishwashers, be sure to choose WaterSense labeled product. To learn more about WaterSense products, visit

Transform Your Lawn.

Conserve water by transforming your lawn into a beautiful low water-use landscape. Santa Rosa offers a rebate based on how much turf your remove.
