Dear Santa Rosa Residents and Business Operators,

As we head into this Thanksgiving, and the rest of the holiday season, we are experiencing an unprecedented, rapid rise in COVID-19 cases across California, including here in Sonoma County. This surge in infection means we need to change the way we celebrate this year, in order to save lives.

As of Saturday, November 21, a limited Stay at Home Order is in effect in Santa Rosa and all of Sonoma County. Under the Order, all non-essential activities outside of the household are not permitted between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. I am asking for your cooperation and voluntary compliance with the Health Order, in the interest of community health and safety. Non-essential businesses need to be closed by 10:00 p.m. and individuals need to limit their interactions with people outside their household. It is important to find ways to connect with our loved ones during the holidays, but celebrate without large gatherings, to avoid further spread of the virus. Restrictions and allowable, essential activities outlined in the Stay at Home Order are available on the County of Sonoma website.

Failing to comply with the Health Order is a violation of State law and local City Ordinances.  Officers will continue to seek opportunities to inform and educate residents first about the requirements and reasons for the Order. We do not wish to issue citations but are prepared to do so as warranted. Let’s all do our part and use good judgement while we fight to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Remember you are doing this to protect your community. Your actions will make all the difference.

Thank you, be well, and have a safe and happy holidays,

Chief Rainer Navarro,

Santa Rosa Police Department
