Rotating Statewide Power Outages Possible through Wednesday Due to Strain on Power Grid

Energy Conservation

State agency asking Californians to Conserve Energy in attempt to avoid energy interruptions

The California Independent System Operator (ISO) has asked consumers to be prepared for likely rolling power outages during the late afternoons and early evenings through Wednesday due to the fact that there may NOT be sufficient energy supply to meet the increased demand during the heatwave across California.

ISO issued a statewide Flex Alert, a call for voluntary electricity conservation, extending through Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. each day in an effort to prevent power interruptions during the heat wave. Do your part to help keep the power on for everyone in California for the next several days by taking the following actions to conserve energy:

Between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m.:

· Set air conditioning thermostats to 78 degrees, if health permits.

· Defer use of major appliances.

· Turn off unnecessary lights.

· Unplug unused electrical devices.

· Close blinds and drapes.

· Use fans when possible.

· Limit time the refrigerator door is open.

Before 3 p.m.:

· “Pre-cool” their homes, or lower air conditioning thermostats to 72 degrees.

· Charge electric vehicles.

· Charge mobile devices and laptops.

· Run dishwashers, washing machines and other major appliances.

· Set pool pumps to run in the early morning or late at night.
