Junior Giants

About Junior Giants

Junior Giants is a free, non-competitive, and innovative co-ed baseball program for under-served children ages 5-13 years old (as of 7/1/18). The Junior Giants Program is made possible by the Giants Community Fund, which collaborates with the San Francisco Giants, by using baseball as a forum to encourage youth and their families to live healthy, productive lives. The program teaches kids the fundamentals of baseball, but places a higher emphasis on building character than on wins and losses. The program offers a wide array of educational components, including the Round-the-Bases Reading Program, the Strike-Out Bullying Contest and Four Bases of Character Development (Confidence, Integrity, Leadership and Teamwork). This program encourages kids to live healthy and productive lives by getting outside, playing baseball and learning important life lessons at the same time.

Play on a Junior Giants Team

The 2018 season runs from early June to August at Elsie Allen High School and Southwest Community Park. Each team has one practice and one game per week. Practices and games last approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes (depending on age division) and take place on Monday-Thursday.

Volunteer With Junior Giants

Volunteer Coaches and Team Parents are essential to the success of the Junior Giants Program. Join us to make an impact on kids' lives! Baseball knowledge and experience are not necessary! This opportunity is open to volunteers age 14 and up (must be 14 as of 7/1/18). All volunteers 18 and over must pass a free, mandatory background check.

Team Parents

Team Parents (PDF) are essential for coordinating the Junior Giants program elements that extend beyond baseball, such as education, health and bullying prevention. The team parent is a vital part of each player's character development and must be prepared to be committed to the team for the duration of the season.

Volunteer Coaches

Our league cannot exist without coaches (PDF), as they are the most important part of the organization. We are currently seeking coaches who will be good role models, teach life lessons and provide positive coaching. Remember, baseball knowledge and experience are not necessary.

How to Volunteer

Submit Application - located in the Junior Giants Volunteer Packet. After submitting application, volunteers will undergo two background checks (at no cost). Contact Skip Wallace at (707) 543-4359 for details about submitting your application and about the Volunteer Orientation night.

Attend a First Pitch Meeting

All participants and their parents must attend a mandatory First Pitch Meeting in late May at Finley Community Center. This meeting is optional for Volunteers who do not have a child enrolled in Junior Giants.
