District 3 Council Member Vacancy 2022

On Dec. 14, Santa Rosa City Council Member Jack Tibbetts, who represents Santa Rosa Council District 3, announced his resignation from his council seat effective Dec. 21, and per the City of Santa Rosa charter, the current City Council has been tasked with filling the vacancy. On Dec. 21, the city council held a special meeting to discuss options for filling the seat and approved city staff moving forward with filling the vacancy by council appointment, with the permanent representative to be voted in by District 3 residents at the 2022 General Election in November. The process to fill the seat is done openly and with the public's involvement. First, with parties submitting an application packet issued by the City Clerk’s Office; and second, with the public submitting proposed interview questions for the City Council to ask those candidates during the appointment phase. The City will take submissions from applicants and from residents with questions for the applicants from Jan. 5 to 19, 2022. 

Each applicant will be interviewed by the City Council at a televised public meeting. Interviews will be scheduled for Feb, 8, 2022, and additional days will be scheduled if needed to accommodate a high volume of applicants. See the full timeline below.

The successful applicant must an elector of the City and residing in District 3 at the time of filing the application packet and throughout the Council Member’s term.

Prospective candidates must submit an application packet—application, nomination paper, and a statement of economic interest (Form 700)—to the City Clerk's office in-person (100 Santa Rosa Ave., Room 10, Santa Rosa, CA 95404). Candidates may download and review the application here; however, the nomination letter and statement of economic interest can only be received in person at the City Clerk’s office (100 Santa Rosa Ave., Room 10, Santa Rosa, CA 95404). The entire document packet must be submitted in-person to the City's Clerk's office by Jan. 19 at 5 p.m.
