National Public Works Week is a time when Public Works demonstrates what 'public works' means. We take a week in the spring to celebrate accomplishments and milestones while raising awareness to the contributions public works has on our community and our everyday lives.
During Public Works Week, the City recognizes the professional and dedicated women and men who make daily contributions to public works-related efforts that include designing, planning, operating and improving the City's infrastructure; graffiti removal; street and sewer repair; engineering and mapping services; pavement materials lab; and traffic control devices.
All of these efforts are collectively known as public works and this one week each year is a time to recognize these important services.
It Starts Here
APWA has announced the theme for 2019 National Public Works Week is 'It Starts Here".
This theme represents the many facets of modern civilization that grow out of the efforts put forth by the public works professionals across North America. What starts here? Infrastructure starts with public works... Growth and innovation starts with public works... Mobility starts with public works... Security starts with public works... Healthy communities start with public works... The bottom line is that citizens' quality of life starts with public works.
