*City Council Member Vacancy* 
Posted 12.4.19 -- Council Member Julie Combs resigned her City Council seat effective November 25, 2019.  Section 31 of the Santa Rosa City Charter provides that such vacancy may be filled either: 

(a) by appointment by the Council within 60 days of the vacancy, or 
(b) by the calling of a special election.

At the Council Meeting on December 3, 2019, the Council, by motion, voted to fill the Council Member Vacancy by appointment. Additionally, the Council adopted the following schedule for the appointment process:

December 4, 2019 – 12:00 p.m. – Application documents may be obtained from the City Clerk. Interview Questions may be submitted to the City Clerk for consideration by Council. 
December 16, 2019 – 5:00 p.m. – Interview Questions submittal period closes
December 18, 2019 – 5:00 p.m. – Application submittal period closes
January 7, 2020 – time TBD -  First day of interviews scheduled 
January 8, 2020 – time TBD – Second day of interviews (if necessary)

Open Session

The open session of the regular meeting is held in the Council Chamber at City Hall and generally begins at 4 p.m. Public study sessions are held in the Council Chamber prior to the 4 p.m. open session. The public is invited to attend and participate in all open sessions of City Council meetings. The open sessions of regular Council meetings are televised live on Comcast Channel 28 and AT&T Channel 99. Meetings are rebroadcast on Wednesdays beginning at 6:30 p.m., and on Saturdays beginning at 11 a.m.

Closed Sessions

Closed sessions are held in Room 10, City Hall prior to the open session. Members of the public may comment on any closed session item prior to the closed session.

Starting November 6, 2018, Santa Rosa's City Council included even-numbered Council District seats 2, 4, and 6. Current at-large council members will remain seated until December 2020, when the remaining four odd-numbered Council District seats will be up for election.  Under Santa Rosa's new district-based election system, voters may only elect one council member for the Council district they are registered in.
