Tours & Events at Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery

SELF-GUIDED TOURS
Visitors are welcome to take a self-guided tour using the Historical Trail Self-Guided Tour map and brochure to navigate through the rich history of the cemetery.

Saturday, April 11 - Vintage Rose and Historic Flora Walking Tours
Two docent-led walking tours will be offered: one about the vintage roses that call the Rural Cemetery home, and the other exploring historic and native plants. Take home a rare rose at the plant sale! Walking tours leave every 20 minutes from 10-11am. Admission is free - donations appreciated.
Meet at Franklin Gate.

Saturday, May 2 - History Walking Tours
Experience the history and stories of the pioneers of Sonoma County and California during an 80 minute docent-led walk. Hear of those who crossed the country by covered wagon, veterans of the War of 1812 and the Civil War, the great earthquake that destroyed Santa Rosa and much more. Meet at Franklin Gate.

Monday, May 25 - Memorial Day Ceremony
Join us for a special event commemorating the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War. 1:00pm at Franklin Gate.

Friday & Saturday, September 18 & 19 - Lamplight Tours of the Rural Cemetery
Walk at night through Santa Rosa’s oldest cemetery to see and hear all new dramatic portrayals of some of our town’s early settlers. Lights, costumes and stage settings create a magical time as characters from the past depict a scene from their lives in the history of Santa Rosa, California and the United States. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a flashlight. (Uneven surfaces and slopes). Period costumes (1850 to 1950) encouraged. Tours last approximately one hour and leave from the McDonald Gate every 20 minutes from 7:30pm to 9:50pm. Pre-Registration Required. Book early – tours sell out!
