This 5K chip-timed race is open to all ages and abilities and participants receive a commemorative mug at the finish line! Stick around after the race for the post-run celebration complete with a judged costume contest, fun activities, sponsor giveaways and live music from Bay Area gypsy-rock and soul band Royal Jelly Jive. Plus, all finishers get to fill their race mug with Whole Foods root beer or a beer generously provided by North Coast Brewing Company and Morris Distributing (for those 21 or older)!
All proceeds from the 5K benefit the Santa Rosa Recreation & Parks Scholarship Fund. Scholarships from this fund are given to qualifying families who apply so that they can participate in our recreation programs, including -- and most often -- swim lessons for children.
All registrations must be done online - Registration must be done online. BikeMonkey is hosting our registration site -- you will be redirected to their website to sign up. (Registration closes March 12th if not yet sold out.)
Mandatory for all racers - You will need to sign and turn in a Waiver Form at packet pickup or on the day of the race to receive a race packet. Group Discount: Available for advanced registration of groups of 10 or more. Each registrant will receive $5 off their registration. Group members must all be registered in one transaction to receive discount.
Where can I pick up my race bib? Pick up your race bib from Fleet Feet Sports on Saturday, March 14th from 10am-6pm OR on race day at the 5K Headquarters tent beginning at 1pm in Juilliard Park. You must bring a signed Waiver Form to pick up your bib. Download one here. If you are picking up race packets for other participants, you must bring their signed forms with you or we cannot issue their packets – no exceptions. You will be given a bib with your race number which should be pinned to the front of your shirt for the 5K. You will also be given a blue chip-timing wristband which will also need to be worn uncovered on your wrist during the 5K. You will NOT need to return these items at the finish line. Also, if you have friends or family members who want to participate, but missed online registration – we will be accepting registrations in-store during packet pickup.
Do I need to pre-register or can I register on race day? Sorry, no race day registrations as event will be sold out before Sunday.
What do I need to bring with me to pickup my race packet? You must sign a Waiver Form and bring it with you to packet pickup day or on the day of the race. If you are picking up race packets for other group participants or group members, you must bring their signed forms with you or we cannot issue their packets. No exceptions.
Will there be water or snacks on the 5k course?
There will be water at the start and finish line, but there will not be a water station on the 5K route. If you know you will need water during your 3.14 mile run or walk, please plan to have a water bottle with you on the course. Fresh fruit provided by Whole Foods Market will also be at the finish line for refueling.
Do I need to bring identification on race day? For individuals 21 years and up planning to consume beer at the event, a valid photo ID will be required to receive a beer wristband. Only those with wristbands (whether a race participant or not) will be served beer at the beverage tent. However, ID is not needed to pick up your race bib on the day of the race or at early packet pickup March 14th.
What is included in my registration fee? Racers will receive a goodie bag, fruit and water, and a commemorative mug after crossing the finish line. One free beer OR root beer is allowed to each registered race participant. Additional will be available for purchase. Non-participants may also purchase beverages. Registrants will also be eligible to participate in the costume contest after the race.
I registered for the St. Patrick's Day 5k, but now I can't participate, can I receive a refund or else transfer my registration to someone else?
Sorry, but there are no refunds or transfer of registrations for the St. Patrick's Day 5k.
What is the route for the 5K? The race will start in Julliard Park, travel northbound slightly down A Street, make a right turn onto the Prince Memorial Greenway and travel down and back on the Greenway for over 3 miles (there will be a turnaround at midpoint). The race will finish back in Juilliard Park. To ease the flow of traffic on the route, the 5K will have a waved start. There will be 4 waves and they will be spaced one minute apart and divided based on average running/walking pace. When you line up at the starting line, you will have to choose one of the following waves/paces for your start:
Under 8 minute per mile runners and faster
8 – 10 minute per mile runners
10 – 13 minute per mile runners
Over 13 minute mile joggers, walkers, baby strollers, well-behaved dogs on leashes
Are strollers and dogs allowed on the race course? Baby strollers and well-behaved dogs on leashes are allowed on the run course.
Where should I park? We recommend Garage 12 on 555 First Street; it is free to park there on Sundays.
How do I access photos taken at the event? We will have event photographers onsite to capture the event action. Participants can also have their photo taken at the photo booth. All photos will be available for viewing on Santa Rosa Rec & Parks Facebook page within one week after the event.
What prizes will be awarded?
You will be able to view live results on your smart phone at the event by going here: rhes.us/live. The overall top 2 male and top 2 female runners will each receive a $50 gift card from our Sponsor Fleet Feet Sports. Awards will also be given to the top 3 male and top 3 female finishers in each age group and those awards can be picked at the 5K Award Pick-Up tent once top finisher results have been posted (approximately 3:45pm).

Fleet Feet Sports can help you prepare and train for the race! If you have ever tried to start a running program in the past and felt you couldn’t keep up or needed to be in better shape, this is the program for YOU! This 7-week Co-Ed training Program incorporates running and walking. This combination helps to reduce the risk of injuries, stress and fatigue while enhancing your enjoyment of physical activity and has been designed to train you in time for the St. Patrick’s Day 5K! As part of the 5k training program, participants will receive a 7-week training program and calendar with workouts provided, coach-guided weekly training sessions, access to coaches via email during the week, dedicated support from your coach to answer individual questions and the camaraderie of others with the same goal! |THE RACE IS REALLY GOING GREEN!|
The City’s Water-Use Efficiency (WUE) Team has partnered with Rec & Parks to make the 5K truly “green” and will kick off Fix a Leak Week at the event! Thanks to the WUE team, all 5K participants will receive a stainless steel reusable water bottle in their runner’s goodie bag and the 5K Hydration Station will utilize disposable cups made from recycled materials. Look for water-saving tips while out on the race course, then stop by the WUE team booth at the post-event celebration to learn about water saving rebates and tips for reducing water usage in your home.
